CIL Dec coal despatches to power cos up 4% m-o-m

Despatches of coal by Coal India Ltd (CIL) to power sector during the month of December increased by 4.44% to 37.43 million tons (mt) from 35.84 mt in November, according to data available with ICMW.

 

On a year-on-year (y-o-y) basis, despatches to the power sector were up 6.24% from 35.23 mt in December 2014, the data revealed.

 

Higher production and availability of rakes helped the company despatch an increased quantity of coal to not only the power sector, but to the steel and fertiliser sectors as well, during the month.

 

Despatches in December, of 0.70 mt, to the steel and cookeries sector, was up 2.94% m-o-m as November despatches stood at 0.68 mt, while on a y-o-y basis, despatches were up 25% compared to 0.56 mt despatched in December 2014.

 

Despatches to the cement sector rose 9.09% to 0.36 mt from 0.33 mt in November. However on a y-o-y basis, despatches to the cement sector were down 29.41% compared to 0.51 mt despatched in December 2014.

 

As far as the fertiliser sector is concerned, despatches in December 2015 stood at 0.29 mt, up 52.63% compared to only 0.19 mt despatched to the sector in December last year. On a m-o-m basis, despatches to the sector were up 20.83% compared to only 0.24 mt in November.

 

On the other hand, despatches to other sector (mainly through e-auction), jumped by 26.52% to 9.35 mt from a low of 7.39 mt in December last year. In November, despatches to other sector stood at 8.21 mt, reflecting a m-o-m rise of 13.89% in December.

 

During the nine months (April-December) of 2015-16, the company’s despatches to the power sector stood higher by 6.36% at 298.15 mt as compared to 280.32 mt (revised) despatched during the corresponding period of the previous year.

 

Despatches to the steel and cokeries sector during the first nine months of the current financial year rose by 1.77% to 5.76 mt from 5.66 mt last year while that to fertiliser sector rose by 14.23% to 1.86 mt from 1.63 mt last year.

 

Similarly, despatches to others sector during the first nine months of 2015-16 were up 26.92% at 79.54 mt from 62.67 mt last year, largely due to increase in e-auction quantities.

 

However, despatches to the cement sector between April and December were down by 10.53% at 3.68 mt from 4.11 mt last year.
