CIL Feb overburden removal beats target by 24%

In February 2016, CIL achieved 107.79 mn cum of overburden removal (OBR), against the target of 87.01 mn cum, the data showed. Hence, CIL surpassed OB removal target by 24%. The OB removal in February 2016 was, however, 4.93% lower compared to the previous month’s OB removal of 113.39 mn cum.
Total OBR during the first 11 months of 2015-16 stood at 483.18 million cubic meters (cum), which was 97.09% compared to the target of 497.62 mn cum set for the period
To maintain a growth rate of 10% in coal production, the company is required to increase its OB growth rate by at least 10%, but currently its OB removal is much higher and this augurs well for the company, a former chairman of the company told ICMW.
