CIL achieves higher H1 productivity, OB removal below target

October 29: Coal India, coal miner to the nation, achieved a productivity level of 5.34 tons for the first half (H1) of the current fiscal, which is 2.69% higher compared to the target of 5.20 tons set the period, but it missed the target for coal production capacity utilisation and overburden (OB) removal, according to a government release.
In opencast mining, CIL’s productivity was 11.58 tons per man-shift hours, up 8.22% from the target of 10.70 tons, while in underground mining, it fell short of the targeted 0.77 tons at 0.74 tons.
On the other hand, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), another government- owned company, recorded production of 3.89 tons per man-shift hours, up 1.30% against the target of 3.84 tons.
However, in production capacity utilisation, CIL fell short of the target of 76.91% at 73.65%, while SCCL too fell short of the targeted 86% at 76% during the first six months of April-September, 2014.
In overburden removal CIL achieved an estimated 447 million cubic meters up to October, against the targeted 474.4 million cubic meters, which was 5.77% lower while SCCL’s, at 135.9 million cubic meters, fell short of the target of 142.5 million cubic meters by 4.63% for the period under review.
