CIL acquires 13,000 ha for Rs 2,448 cr in 3 years

Facing ever-increasing challenges in land acquisition, Coal India Ltd (CIL) has managed to acquire more than 13,053 hectares (ha) of land, while paying Rs 2,448.79 crore compensation during 3 years from 2012-13 (FY13) to 2014-15 (FY15), according to data released by the company.
Of the total acquisition, 4,780 ha were acquired in FY13, 4,937.5 ha in FY14 and the remaining 3,335.7 ha in FY15, the data show.
Among the CIL subsidiaries, the highest acquisition was made by Western Coalfields Ltd (4,795 ha), followed by Central Coalfields (2,881.5 ha), South Eastern Coalfields (2,497.6 ha), Mahanadi Coalfields (1,738.7 ha) and Eastern Coalfields (888 ha). The remaining two subsidiaries, Northern Coalfields and Bharat Coking Coal, acquired only 180 ha and 72 ha, respectively.
Of the total compensation, the highest amount was recorded for FY15 at Rs 1,159.96 crore.
Among the subsidiaries, South Eastern Coalfields paid the highest compensation of Rs 1,347.9 crore, almost 55%, while acquiring only 13% of the total land acquired.
