CIL appoints PwC to revise NIT on imported coal

22 Jan 2014

January 22: Coal India Ltd (CIL) has asked PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to study the implications of some of the suggestions that have been incorporated in its tender document for selecting a government agency with regard to supplying imported coal, an official from the company told ICMW.

"We had received some feedback at a pre-bid meet of PSU traders held in August last year. We have incorporated those suggestions in the tender document. The incorporation has been approved by the chairman and we have asked PwC to study the modifications and include the same in the NIT," the official said.

"PwC is expected to come back with some modifications within this week after which a fresh tender would be floated with PSU coal traders to select an agency for importing 5 million tons (+/-30%) steam coal for supply to power plants," the official added.

Incidentally, CIL had floated a notice inviting tender (NIT) in November to select an agency, but none of the agencies submitted bids allegedly because of "some impractical conditions" imposed.

"We did not submit our bid because CIL had not incorporated the suggestions offered by us in the pre-bid meeting held in August. Now we understand that the suggestions would be incorporated and a fresh tender floated," an official from one of the PSU trading companies said.
