CIL changes workers wage for washeries

26 Dec 2013

December 26: Coal India Ltd (CIL) has changed the tender clauses for new washery projects to incorporate changes in compensation for workers engaged in the construction and operations of coal washeries, a company source said on December 26.

"The washery tenders have been changed to incorporate changes recommended by a high power committee on workers' compensation," the source said.

As per the recommendation of the committee, he said, workers engaged in the construction of washery projects would now be paid wages as per the Minimum Wages Act (for state or centre, whichever is higher). The workers deployed for the operations of washeries, however, would be paid wages as per CIL wage structures.

This was decided at a recent meeting of the CMDs of CIL subsidiaries, he added.
