CIL despatches to power sector falls m-o-m in Feb

Despatches by Coal India Ltd (CIL) to the power sector during February 2016 decreased 8.75% to 34.51 million tons (mt) from 37.82 mt in January 2016, according to data available with ICMW.

 

However, on a year-on-year (y-o-y) basis, despatches to the power sector were up 5.34% from 32.76 mt in February 2015, the data revealed.

 

On the other hand, the despatches in February 2016 of 0.77 mt to the steel and cokeries sector was up 14.93% m-o-m as January 2016 despatches stood 0.67 mt. On a y-o-y basis, the despatches were up 22.22% compared to 0.63 mt despatched in February 2015.

 

However, despatches to the cement sector in February 2016 declined to 0.31 mt from 0.36 mt in January 2016. Similarly on a y-o-y basis, despatches to the cement sector were down 27.91% compared to 0.43 mt despatched in February 2015.

 

As far as the fertiliser sector is concerned, the despatches in February 2016 stood at 0.15 mt, down 28.57% compared with 0.21 mt despatched to the sector in February 2015 y-o-y. However on a m-o-m basis, the despatches to the sector were up 25% compared to 0.12 mt despatched in January 2016.

 

On the other hand, despatches to the ‘other’ sector (mainly through e-auction), were up by 4.83% to 9.77 mt from 9.32 mt in January 2016 and up 7.36% y-o-y from 9.10 mt in February 2015.

 

During the 11 months (April-February) of 2015-16, the company’s despatches to the power sector stood higher by 6.50% at 370.50 mt as compared to 347.90 mt despatched during the corresponding period of the previous year.

 

The despatches to steel and cokeries during the first 11 months of the current financial year rose by 18.46% to 7.38 mt from 6.23 mt seen in the same period last year while that to the fertiliser sector rose by 4.93% to 2.13 mt from 2.03 mt despatched during the corresponding period of the previous year.

 

Similarly, despatches to the others sector during the first 11 months of 2015-16 were up by 22.47% at 98.43 mt from 80.37 mt seen in the same period last year largely due to increase in the e-auction quantity.

 

However, despatches to the cement sector between April and February were down by 11.18% at 4.37 mt from 4.92 mt seen in the same period last year.
