CIL gets EC for 48 projects during XII Plan

August 13: Coal India Ltd (CIL) has obtained 48 environmental clearance (EC) proposals for a capacity of 71.54 million tons per annum (mtpa) from the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) during the Twelfth Five-Year Plan (2012-17), up to March 2014.

The coal miner has also obtained Stage II clearance for 11 forestry proposals, involving an area of 923.73 ha during the same period, CIL said in its annual report for the year 2013-14.

As of July 2014, 192 forestry proposals are awaiting clearances at various levels. Out of these, 131 proposals involving an area of about 16,624 ha are awaiting clearances at Stage-I level and 61 proposals, involving an area of about 15,368 ha are awaiting clearances at Stage-II level, it said.
