CIL in talks with Power plants to finalise coal imports

June 09: After appointing MMTC Ltd to procure imported coal on its behalf, Coal India Ltd (CIL) has initiated final rounds of discussions with power plants to arrive at the quantity of coal that needs to be imported, an official of the company said.
“Finalisation of MMTC has been done and we are now in talks with power stations. Based on their requirement, we will fix the quantity and pass on to MMTC to float global tender,” the official said.
Asked what would be the price at which imported coal would be supplied to power plants, the CIL official said, “Price will be discovered in the tender to be floated by MMTC.”
