CIL misses January coal production target by 6%
02 Feb 2016
Despite an encouraging growth, Coal India Ltd (CIL) failed to achieve its January 2016 coal production target as it ended up producing 52.86 million tons (mt) against the target of 56.18 mt. The production level was 94% of the target.
The state-run coal miner accounts for 80% of the total coal production in India and the company has set a target of producing 550 mt coal in 2015-16 and increase it further to 1,000 mt by 2019-20.
Despite missing the target, the company reported a 13.43% year-on-year (y-o-y) and 1.51% month-on-month (m-o-m) growth in coal production as compared to 52.07 mt seen in December 2015 and 46.6 mt in January 2014.
The company’s production growth rate in November was 9.69%.
Total production during the first ten months from April to January of 2015-16 stood at 426.31 mt, nearly 3% lower than the target of 439.26 mt set for the period, but 9.59% higher compared to 388.98 mt produced during the corresponding period of 2014-15.
