CIL overburden removal exceeds target 11% till Jan
02 Feb 2016
Total overburden removal (OBR) during the first ten months of 2015-16 stood at 941.94 million cubic meters (cum), which was higher by 11.18% compared to the target of 847.20 mn cum set for the period and up 34.3% compared to the corresponding period of 2014-15.
In January 2016, CIL achieved 113.39 mn cum of overburden removal (OBR), against the target of 96.56 mn cum, the data showed. Again, CIL surpassed OB removal target by 17.42%. The OB removal in January was, however, 0.31% lower compared to the same month in the previous year.
A CIL official said that the higher OBR will pave the way for increased coal production in the coming months and years.
To maintain a growth rate of 10% in coal production, the company is required to increase its OB growth rate by at least 10%, but currently its OB removal is much higher and this augurs well for the company, a former chairman of the company told ICMW.
