CIL’s May output up 5%, offtake grows 6.38% y-o-y

June 2: Coal India Limited (CIL), on June 2, said its production and offtake during the month of May 2014 increased by 5% and 6.38% respectively as compared to May 2013.

Production in May 2014 stood at 36.27 million tons (mt), up from 34.55 mt produced in May 2013, whereas off-take increased to 40.71 mt from 38.27 mt recorded in the corresponding month in 2013, according to provisional data released by the company.

On month-on-month basis, the company’s production was down 3.30% from 37.51 mt produced in April 2014 whereas offtake rose marginally or 0.42% from 40.54 mt in April 2014.

During the first two months of the current financial year (2014-15), production by the world’s largest coal miner stood at 73.79 mt and off-take at 81.25 mt, up 5% and 4% respectively over the corresponding period of 2013-14.

For the current financial year, the company has set a production target of 507 mt and offtake target of 520 mt. It production and off-take targets for the first two months of the financial year was 76.17 mt and 88.94 mt respectively.

According to available data, the company’s actual production in May 2014 was 94% of the targeted 38.56 mt while off–take during May 2014 met 93% of the target of 43.78 mt.
