CIL’s coal despatches to power plants up 7.25% in March

April 16: Month-on-month despatches of coal to thermal power plants from mines of Coal India Ltd (CIL) in March rose 7.25% as compared to the volumes despatched in February, according to provisional information provided by the company.

Despatches had increased in March due to slightly increased demand from some of the power plants, ICMW understands.

The coal miner despatched a total of 32.86 million tons (mt) to the power sector in March 2014 compared to 30.64 mt in February and 31.78 mt in January 2014. The despatches stood at 32.01 mt in December, 28.91 mt in November, 27.08 mt in October, 26.55 mt in September and at 26.04 mt in August.

Of the total despatches in March, 14.79 mt went to the power plants of NTPC compared to 13.36 mt despatched in February. DVC had received 1.54 mt of coal in March from CIL during the month compared to 1.62 mt in February.
