CIL’s despatches to power sector up 5.72% in 2015-16

The despatches of coal by Coal India Ltd (CIL) to the power sector during financial year 2015-16 rose 5.72% to 407.90 million tons (mt) from 385.85 mt in 2014-15, according to data available with ICMW.

Similarly, the despatches of coal by CIL to the power sector during the month of March 2016 increased by 7.30% to 37.03 mt from 34.51 mt in February 2016.

CIL’s total despatches of coal to all the five sectors namely power, steel and cookeries, cement, fertiliser and other sectors during financial year 2015-16 rose by 8.76% to 531.90 mt from 489.04 mt in 2014-15 while despatches in March 2016 of 49.09 mt to that sector was up 7.87% compared to 45.51 mt despatched in February 2016.

The despatches of coal to the steel and cokeries sector by CIL during financial year 2015-16 rose 8.99% to 8.73 mt from 8.01 mt in 2014-15 while despatches in March 2016 of 0.77 mt to that sector was at par with February 2016.

However, despatches of coal to the cement sector by CIL during financial year 2015-16 were down by 15.68% to 4.68 mt from 5.55 mt in 2014-15 while despatches in March 2016 of 0.36 mt to that sector were up 16.13% compared to 0.31 mt despatched in February 2016.

Meanwhile, despatches of coal to the fertilizer sector by CIL during financial year 2015-16 rose a marginal 0.44% to 2.30 mt from 2.29 mt in 2014-15 while despatches in March 2016 of 0.16 mt to that sector were up 6.67% compared to 0.15 mt despatched in February 2016.

On the other hand, despatches of coal to other sector (mainly through e-auction) by CIL during the financial year of 2015-16 rose 23.99% to 108.29 mt from 87.34 mt in 2014-15 while despatches in March 2016 of 10.77 mt to that sector were up 10.24% compared to 9.77 mt despatched in February 2016.
