CIL’s overburden removal rises 26% in Dec y-o-y

Total overburden removal (OBR) till the end of December 2015 was at 827.10 mn cubic metres (cum), which was higher than the target of 750.64 mn cum set for the period. Production in December was 110.18% of the target. For the period April-December 2015, OBR showed a significant increase of 34.6% year-on-year.

In December 2015, CIL achieved 113.75 mn cum of overburden removal (OBR), against the target of 94.99 mn cum, the data showed. Again, CIL surpassed OB removal by 120.00%. It was 26.4% higher compared to the same month in the previous year.

A Coal India official said that the higher OBR will pave the way for increased coal production.
