18 Jan 2016
Coal India Ltd (CIL) has reported a 9.8% growth in coal production to 398.67 million tons (mt) till January 15, 2015-16, compared to the same period last year, according to data available with ICMW.
This, however, is slightly below the 410.26 mt targeted for the period under consideration (April 1 to January 15), the data shows.
In January, production stood at 25.22 mt (till January 15), about 93% of the target of 27.19 mt. This shows a year-on-year growth of 22.1%. The January performance so far shows an increase in growth if compared with the same period of the previous month (December 15, 2015).
Coal off-take till January 15 was 412.63 mt, below the target of 424.25 mt, but 10.2% higher on an annual basis.
Off-take during the month (till January 15) was 23.34 mt, which was 95% of the target of 24.60 mt. The growth in off-take this month has so far been 17.1% year-on-year. This, again, is higher than the 10.2% growth (y-o-y) achieved during the same period of the previous month (December 15, 2015).
Total overburden (OBR) removal till January 15 this year has been 884.24 mn cubic metres (cum), which is higher than the target of 797.36 mn cum. OBR has shown a stupendous growth of 35.5% year-on-year.
In the month of January, CIL achieved 57.02 mn cum of OBR (till January 15), against the target of 46.72 mn cum, the data shows.
CIL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Sutirtha Bhattacharya has attributed the jump in production in 2015-16 to the high growth in OBR, saying that the latter would ensure continued growth in output this year.
