CIL to meet power generators on imported coal issue next wk
19 Mar 2014
March 19: Coal India Ltd (CIL) has convened a meeting next week with power generators, including those who had initially showed interest in buying imported coal through the miner.
A source in the company told, "a meeting has been convened next week to update power generators on the latest situation for supplying imported coal to them."
"Based on the response from the power generators, we will give our go-ahead to MMTC Ltd to float a global tender on our behalf and supply the coal to power generators," the source added.
Incidentally, CIL had re-floated a global notice inviting tender to select an agency that will import around 5.00 million tons (+/-30%) coal on its behalf and supply to power producers.
The NIT was opened on March 6 and MMTC had emerged as the sole bidder.
