CIL to meet unions on Nov 12 over strike issue

November 7: In a bid to dissuade the trade unions from holding the proposed strike on November 24, the Coal India Ltd (CIL) management has sought to meet the unions on November 12.
“The CIL management has called us for a meeting. However, we don’t think it will yield anything as the strike call is against the government’s move to privatise the coal sector,” a senior leader of CITU-backed AICWF told ICMW.
He said the unions have sent a letter to the coal ministry conveying their decision to hold the strike but have not received any response so far.
Meanwhile, the demonstrations held by workers at various coal mines against privatisation on November 5-7 have been “very successful,” he added.
