CIL union defers strike

December 16: In view of the government’s reported move to postpone the disinvestment plan for Coal India Ltd (CIL), a coal trade union has decided to defer the proposed three-day strike from December 17-19, 2013.

“As the Government of India has decided to delay the process of disinvestment in Coal India Limited, AICWF too has decided to defer the nationwide coal strike scheduled called between 17-19, December 2013,” Jibon Roy, General Secretary, All India Coal Workers Federations (AICWF), said in a statement.

He, however, added that the strike decision “would be renewed the moment the government renews its decision.”

Roy hailed “the unity of trade unions for the current attainment”.

Earlier, the five trade unions of CIL had postponed the strike from September to December following parleys between the government and the management.
