CIL washery rejects may touch 19 mt by 13th Plan

November 10: The volumes of washery rejects at Coal India could touch 18-19 million tons by the 13th Plan, when its new washeries get commissioned, it was revealed at the recent IMC meet.
A CIL official informed that, at present, the quantum is much lower at 1.3 million tons and thus, CIL was not in a position to grant long-term linkages for such material.
The official further said that, consequently, requests for grant of long-term linkages of washery by-products could be considered only with the expected increase in the volumes of washery rejects from the coal behemoth’s washeries in the near future.
A Ministry of Power official, meanwhile, in response to a proposal as to whether NTPC would be in a position to set up a rejects-based power plant, said that such a unit would not be economically viable for the power behemoth.
