CIL yet to scrap Mozambique project, says Goyal

March 17: Coal India Ltd (CIL) has not yet scrapped the ambitious Mozambique project, Coal Minister Piyush Goyal has said.

“CIL had obtained an exploration license in Mozambique. However, geological exploration of this block has not been completed,” the minister said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha recently.

Asked whether it is a fact that coal in both the blocks acquired in Mozambique is unfit for consumption by Indian power plants, the minister said: “Without exploration and preparation of the geological report (GR), any decision on commercial mining and suitability for consumption by Indian power plants cannot be taken.”
