CMOAI goes into silent mode over PRP
23 May 2014
May 23: The change in the government at the Centre seems to have dealt a blow to the aspirations of the Coal Mine Officers Association of India (CMOAI) which had deferred its 3-day strike in March over performance-related pay (PRP).
The association leadership, which had expressed its displeasure over the lack of progress last month, declined to comment on the status of the proposal lying with the Office of the Coal Secretary.
“The issue has got stuck with the Office of the Coal Secretary,” an association leader had said earlier.
Since the election code of conduct had been in place, the proposal first needed to be vetted by the EC before it could be forwarded to the Cabinet for its approval. However, the association leaders were not available for commenting on the current status.
A source said that as the new NDA government is reportedly considering proposals to break up Coal India Ltd (CIL) and opening up the sector, the association’s demand may take a backseat under the new regime.
