Spot prices of standard grade South African coal (6000 Kcal/kg NAR) continued to firm up on April 14, buoyed by trade enquiries from the Indian shores, according to market sources.
Prices were up by $3.50 per ton FOB over a week ago, as the last few sessions saw consistent rise in RBCT prices. Prices had jumped sharply on April 12 despite low enquiries from Indian buyers.
Met coal prices also continued with the uptrend seen early this week, registering a gain of about $1.50 per ton FOB Australia on April 14, allegedly pushed by fresh enquiries from Chinese buyers.
The buoyancy in met coal prices led to an increase in met coke offers, even though market sources kept their fingers crossed about a sustained rally.
