November 26: The Central Mine Planning & Design Institute (CMPDI) has achieved exploratory drilling work of 544,000 metres during April-October, 2015, a growth of about 39% over the corresponding figure for last year, a company official told ICMW.
The drilling performance till October, however, falls short of the target of 710,000 metres set for the period, he said.
“The target set for the current year is quite high. Also, there are several hurdles we face in drilling on a regular basis. Considering these facts, the performance so far has been quite satisfactory,” the official said.
Of the total drilling, around 207,000 metres came through the departmental route, while the remaining 338,000 metres were achieved through outsourcing, he said.
The departmental drilling shows a 16% yearly growth and 98% achievement against the target of 211,000 metres. Outsourced drilling work shows a 57% growth but only 68% achievement against the target of 499,000 metres.
CMPDI, the exploration arm of Coal India Ltd (CIL), had achieved total exploratory drilling of 828,000 m in 2014-15, about 19% growth over 697,000 metres achieved in the previous year. Of the total drilling in 2014-15, 356,000 metres came through the departmental route, while the remaining 472,000 m was achieved through outsourcing, the official said.
