December 10: The Union Cabinet, on December 9, gave its approval for two separate memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with Indonesia and the UK for cooperation in the field of new and renewable energy, according to official statements.
The MoU with Indonesia was signed in Jakarta last month during the visit of Vice-President M. Hamid Ansari to that country, the statement said.
The objective of the MoU is to establish the basis for a co-operative institutional framework to encourage and promote technical bilateral cooperation on new and renewable energy issues on the basis of mutual benefit, equality and reciprocity.
The Cabinet has also given its ex-post factor approval for signing an MoU with the UK and Northern Ireland on co-operation in the energy sector.
The areas of co-operation include integration of renewables into the grid, off-shore wind and solar energy, energy efficiency and vehicle fuel efficiency, among others.
