Canada's Ridley Terminals coal exports total 668,163 mt in March, down 41.4% on year: port

Ridley Terminals in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, exported 668,163 mt of thermal and metallurgical coal in March, down 2.6% from February and down 41.4% from the year-ago month, Prince Rupert Port Authority data showed April 19.
 
Over three months, exports were down 17.6% from the year-ago period, with over 2.1 million mt, and compared to the five-year average of 703,170 mt, exports were down 5%.
 
Thermal exports dropped 48.3% month on month to 148,117 mt. reaching a 17-month low. From the year-ago period, shipments were down 72.4%. Over three months, exports were 984,326, down 10.6% year on year.
 
Met shipments in March totaled 520,046 mt, a six-month high. From February, exports jumped 30.2%, and year on year, they fell 13.7%. Through three months of the year, exports were over 1.1 million mt, down 22.8% year on year.
 
There were no petcoke exports in March, compared with 167,435 in February and 537,493 mt in the year-ago month. September 2016 was the last time there were no monthly petcoke exports.
 
Shipments totaled 315,673 mt over three months, up 23% compared to the year-ago period.
