Cement cos’ March coal consumption up 18.52% to 1.773 mt m-o-m

June 10: The Indian cement sector consumed a total of 1.773 mt of coal during March 2014, up 18.52% from 1.496 mt in February.
During March 2014, 1.14 mt was consumed during the process of cement-making while 0.628 mt was used in generation of captive power. On the other hand, in February 2014, 0.95 mt was consumed during the process of cement-making while 0.547 mt was used in generation of captive power.
The following table contains month-wise consumption details of coal (in mt) by the sector for cement-making and that used in captive power plants (in million tons) during June-March, 2013-14:
