Cement sector’s Feb coal receipts fall 6.37% m-o-m

May 19: The Indian cement sector received 1.338 million tons (mt) of coal during February 2014, down 6.37% from 1.429 mt received in January, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

During February 2014, out of the total coal received by cement companies, 0.402 mt was through their linkages with various subsidiaries of Coal India Limited (CIL) and Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). This figure (received from linkages), however, stood slightly higher at 0.523 mt in January.

On the other hand, during December, cement companies had received 0.597 mt through linkages out of the total quantum, data revealed.

In addition to this, during February, 0.200 mt was procured from the open market, mainly via e-auction while the figure stood at 0.169 mt, 0.176 mt, 0.22 mt and 0.153 mt in January, December, November and October respectively.

Lignite and pet coke receipts during February stood at 0.026 mt and 0.408 mt, respectively while the figures in January were at 0.024 mt and 0.373 mt.

Imported coal receipts by cement companies stood at 0.255 mt, 0.301 mt, 0.307 mt, 0.365 mt and 0.391 mt during February, January, December, November and October 2013, respectively.
