Cement sector’s March coal receipts up 22.42% m-o-m

June 10: The Indian cement sector received 1.638 million tons (mt) of coal during March 2014, up 22.42% from 1.338 mt received in February, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

During March 2014, out of the total coal received by cement companies, 0.564 mt was through their linkages with various subsidiaries of Coal India Limited (CIL) and Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). This figure (received from linkages), however, stood slightly lower at 0.402 mt in February.

On the other hand, during January, cement companies had received 0.523 mt through linkages out of the total quantum, data revealed.

In addition to this, during March, 0.297 mt was procured from the open market, mainly via e-auction while the figure stood at 0.200 mt, 0.169 mt, 0.176 mt, 0.22 mt and 0.153 mt in February, January, December, November and October, respectively.

Lignite and pet coke receipts during March stood at 0.023 mt and 0.402 mt, respectively while the figures in February were at 0.026 mt and 0.408 mt.

Imported coal receipts by cement companies stood at 0.304mt, 0.255 mt, 0.301 mt, 0.307 mt, 0.365 mt and 0.391 mt during March, February, January, December, November and October 2013, respectively.
