Cement sector’s May coal receipts up 13.54% m-o-m

August 20: The Indian cement sector received 1.887 million tons (mt) of coal during May 2014, up 13.54% from 1.662 mt received in April, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
During May 2014, out of the total coal received by cement companies, 0.629 mt was through their linkages with various subsidiaries of Coal India Limited (CIL) and Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). This figure (received from linkages), however, stood slightly lower at 0.681 mt in April.
On the other hand, during March, cement companies had received 0.564 mt through linkages out of the total quantum, data revealed.
In addition to this, during May, 0.256 mt was procured from the open market, mainly via e-auction while the figure stood at 0.239, 0.297, 0.200 mt, 0.169 mt, 0.176 mt, 0.22 mt and 0.153 mt in April, March, February, January, December, November and October respectively.
Lignite and pet coke receipts during May stood at 0.019 mt and 0.372 mt, respectively while the figures in April were at 0.004 mt and 0.232 mt, respectively.
Imported coal receipts by cement companies stood at 0.498 mt, 0.035 mt, 0.304 mt, 0.255 mt, 0.301 mt, 0.307 mt, 0.365 mt and 0.391 mt during May, April, March, February, January, December, November and October 2013, respectively.
