Cement terminal to hike Mumbai Port’ traffic

May 6: A new cement terminal at Mumbai Port is likely to increase the port’s traffic by 1.2 million tons per annum, a port official told ICMW.
“The terminal will be an off-shore cement handling one where cement will be brought in from Gujarat and other states and will be distributed to the local areas through the coastal route,” the official said.
He claimed that the cement handling terminal will be devoid of pollution, usually resulting from handling and transportation of loose cement.
Accordingly, the port has allotted 2.5 hectares of land to UltraTech Cement.
The estimated cost of the project, including portable unloaders, silos, bagging plant and other ancillary facilities will be around Rs 1,000 crore, the official added.
