Gypsum imports through Chennai Port edged up 5.80% to 1,112 tons in March 2016 from 1,051 tons seen in February 2016, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
Gypsum imports through Chennai Port fluctuated wildly through the last financial year with the lowest volume being in February at 1,051 tons and the highest at 71,095 tons in May.
Total imports of the material through the port in full fiscal of 2015-16 stood at 312,334 tons against a lower 241,805 tons in the same period of the previous fiscal, registering a year-on-year increase of 29.16%.
Imports of the material in March 2015 stood at a heftier 55,012 tons.

In March 2015, imports comprised a volume of 81 tons from the UAE at a unit price of Rs 4,951 ($73), 1,011 tons from Iran at Rs 4,095-Rs 4,117 ($60-$61) per ton, 20 tons from the US at a unit price of Rs 40,427 ($599), amongst others.
February 2016 imports comprised a volume of 614 tons from Iran at a range of Rs 4,117 – Rs 5,192 ($60-76), 162 tons from the UAE at a unit price of Rs 5,238 ($77), 270 tons from Oman at a unit price of Rs 4,331 ($63), amongst others.
