Chennai gypsum imports spurt 104% in Mar m-o-m

April 29: Gypsum imports through Chennai Port skyrocketed 103.81% to 55,012 tons in March 2015 against a volume of 26,992 tons in February 2015, as per provisional information available with ICMW.

Imports of the material in March 2014 stood at nil.

With the March figures, imports of gypsum through the port in financial year 2014-15 stood higher at 241,805 tons as against 192,039 tons imported in the same period of the previous fiscal of 2013-14.

The following table contains the month-wise import figures of gypsum via Chennai Port during 2013-14 and 2014-15:

In March 2015, 144 tons arrived from China at a unit price of Rs 25,181 ($401), 1,332 tons from Iran at a price range of Rs 3,838 - 7,285 ($61-116) per ton, 52,267 tons from Oman at a price range of Rs 1,615-Rs 13,767 ($26-$219) per ton, 182 tons from Thailand at a range of Rs 6,354-Rs 12,149 ($101-193) per ton, 898 tons from the UAE at a range of Rs 4,649-Rs 9,556 ($68-$323) per ton and 190 tons from Vietnam at Rs 11,265-Rs 11,301 ($179) per ton.

In February 2015, however, 73 tons arrived from China at a price range of Rs 24,980-Rs 36, 369 ($401-587) per ton, 756 tons arrived from Iran at a price range of Rs 3,827 - 7,272 ($61-117) per ton, 25,242 tons from Oman at a price range of Rs 1,451-Rs 1,644 ($23-$26) per ton, 151 tons from Saudi Arabia at a price range of Rs 4,114-Rs 9,350 ($66-150) per ton, 126 tons from Thailand at a price range of Rs 6,303-Rs 8,846 ($101-$142) per ton, 645 tons from the UAE at a price range of Rs 4,274-Rs 20,171 ($68-$323) per ton, and 0.41 tons from Singapore at Rs 63,592-Rs 63,990 ($1,021-$1,025) per ton.
