New UserChennai’s Feb gypsum imports plunge to 1,051 tons

Gypsum imports through Chennai Port dropped to abysmal 1,051 tons in February 2016 after having catapulted to 57,180 tons in January 2016, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
Imports of the material in February 2015 stood at 26,992 tons.
Gypsum imports through Chennai Port have been fluctuating wildly with the lowest volume this fiscal being in February and the highest at 71,095 tons in May.
Total imports of the material through the port in the first 11 months (April-February) of 2015-16 stood at 311,221 tons against a much lower 186,792 tons in the same period of the previous fiscal.
Imports of gypsum through the port in financial year 2014-15 stood at 241,805 tons.

February 2016 imports comprised a volume of 614 tons from Iran at a range of Rs 4,117 – Rs 5,192 ($60-76), 162 tons from the UAE at a unit price of Rs 5,238 ($77), 270 tons from Oman at a unit price of Rs 4,331 ($63), amongst others.
In January 2015, imports comprised a volume of 123 tons from China at a range of Rs 7,922 – Rs 26,334 ($117-390), 640 tons from Iran at Rs 4,063-Rs 4,769 ($59-$71) per ton, 54,000 tons from Oman at a unit price of Rs 1,507 ($22) per ton, amongst others.
