14 Aug 2015
China produced 306.66 million tonnes of coal in July, down 3.1% year on year and down 6.14% from June, said the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on August 12.
Over January-July, China produced a total 2.1 billion tonnes of coal, down 5.3% on year, showed the NBS data.
China’s coal sector further deteriorated in the first half of the year. 18 out of 21 listed coal enterprises of China posted losses in net profit generated in the first half of the year, according to industry portal China Coal Resource.
Combined net profit of the 21 enterprises stood at 8.67 billion yuan ($1.4 billion), plunging 63.02% from a year ago, said the CCR.
The Chinese government has vowed to further curb illegal coal production by carrying out an overall inspection on coal mines construction and production in main producing areas, according to a document published on the NDRC's website on June 3.
