Mysteel’s price assessment of the 5,500 kcal/kg Shanxi blend thermal coal softened by Yuan 70/tonne ($10.9/t) on week as of May 26 to reach Yuan 860/t including the 13% VAT at Qinhuangdao port in North China’s Hebei. The decline in price was mainly in response to the cooling of inquiries, according to sources.

The spot thermal coal price had hit a near four-month high of Yuan 980/t on May 12, which was quite unusual during the off-season for steaming coal demand ahead the summer period, market watchers noted.
