Despite the tumble in the coal futures prices on the dampened market optimism in the coming months, China’s spot thermal coal prices at the domestic ports had stayed largely unchanged last week, as neither buyers and sellers seemed ready to compromise on prices, according to sources.

Mysteel’s price assessment of the 5,500 kcal/kg Shanxi blend thermal coal persisted at Yuan 930/tonne ($144.6/t) including the 13% VAT over May 17-21 at Qinhuangdao port, North China’s Hebei province, or down Yuan 50/t from May 14, though the most-traded September thermal coal future at the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange.
