China to control mines below 10,000 by end-2015

China pledged to control coal mines below 10,000 by the end of this year, state media reported, citing the State Administration of Coal Mine Safety on August 4.

China has shut 49% of the initial target of 1,131 mines in 2015 in the first half of the year, said Huang Yi, the spokesman of the administration.

Small, high gas and coal and gas outburst mines, especially coal and gas outburst mines with annual capacity below 90,000 tonnes are main objects to be closed, said Huang.
