China to cut coal production by 60 mtpa in 2016
23 Feb 2016
In an attempt to cut coal production, China plans to close down around 1,000 mines with a combined production capacity of around 60 million tons per annum (mtpa), in 2016, a report said, quoting Noor Bekri, head of NEA, the country’s central energy planning agency.
The cuts this year are part of longer-term plans revealed earlier this month to slash coal production capacity and output by 500 mtpa in the next 3-5 years to address the country’s supply glut, the report said.
