Chinese co to help Punjab in coal energy

A Chinese company on Sunday reached an agreement with Punjab government for cooperation in producing coal energy for which Punjab government has framed an ambitious plan to secure 6000MW electricity within three to five years.
A delegation of the Chinese company, China Machinery Engineering Corporation, met Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif during the course of the former agreed to extend cooperation in energy and coal mining sectors, particularly in coal mining for which about 500 million tones of coal reserves exist only in Punjab.
The Chief Minister on the occasion highlighted the problems Pakistan economy and public was facing due to energy crisis and the government’s efforts to overcome the same at the earliest. The CM said besides involving private sector in the production of electricity the government is also going to hold road shows in various countries. He said an investment conference on energy will also be arranged in the provincial metropolis. He said that due to efforts of the government, local and foreign power companies and investors are expressing interest in investment in Punjab.
The Chief Minister informed the delegation about the vast opportunities of investment in energy sector in Punjab and the special incentives the government was offering for this purpose. He said that work is being carried out expeditiously on power generation projects for which the Government has also identified six sites for obtaining 6000mw electricity within next three to five years. He said that Punjab government is setting up two coal based power plants of 660 megawatt each and while the rest by the private sector. He said cooperation of Chinese company in mining of coal would be welcomed. The Chief Minister directed that Provincial authorities and officials of Chinese company should evolve a practicable roadmap for cooperation in energy and coal mining sectors.
Director General China Machinery Engineering Corporation, Li Kan expressed desire to cooperate with Punjab government in energy and coal mining sectors. He said that his company has worked on several energy projects in various countries of the world including Pakistan and also has expertise in mining sector. He said that his company will cooperate with Punjab government in the sector of coal mining.
He also gave a detailed briefing to the meeting regarding the activities of China Machinery Engineering Corporation, energy projects in various countries improvement of power supply system and curtailing of line losses.
