Chinese coke coming at $20-30 cheaper than Indian coke

December 24: Import of Chinese coke is finding ready buyers in the Indian market, thus posing a threat to the survival of the Indian coke makers, an industry source told ICMW.

“Chinese coke is coming to the Indian shore at very cheap rates, $20-30 per ton less than domestic coke price. Naturally, they are getting buyers here,” the source said.

“As a result, even though the international coking coal prices are hovering at record low levels, the Indian coke makers are finding it tough to retain buyers,” he said.

In the prevailing market scenario, it would be difficult for the Indian coke makers to match the Chinese coke prices, he said, adding the domestic coke makers must upgrade technology through blending to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
