Chinese coke prices rise yet makers miss the benefits
13 Aug 2021
Domestic coke prices in China continued to climb during recent weeks, returning to their highest levels in over a decade. And yet the coke producers’ margins have moved in almost the completely opposite direction, market insiders observed Thursday. They blamed the surge in coking coal prices in the past few months.
On August 11, Mysteel’s national composite coke price hit a near 13-year high of Yuan 2,836.5/t ($437.7/t) including the 13% VAT, after steel firms had accepted two procurement price rises of Yuan 120/t each since late July.
