Chinese coking coal prices climb, but buyers still shy
07 Jul 2021
China’s domestic coking coal prices have continued rising this week after last week’s festivities in Beijing, Mysteel data shows, but as of Tuesday, coal users were yet to fully return to the market to replenish stocks. Industry sources say that over the past few days too, some large-sized coking coal miners raised prices of coal for long-term customers.
As of July 6, Mysteel’s national composite coking coal price had risen by Yuan 39.5/tonne ($6.1/t) on week to Yuan 1,691/t including the 13% VAT, refreshing the high since Mysteel started the assessment on April 8 2018. The price has been steadily trending upward since mid-June.
