Coal India Chairman Narsing Rao resigns

May 28: A day after India’s new Coal Minister Piyush Goyal assumed office, Coal India Ltd (CIL) Chairman S Narsing Rao said he has resigned from his post and was seeking to join the Telengana state government.
Rao said he tendered his resignation three to four days back and was waiting for the new NDA government at the Centre to relieve him from his current position.
Earlier, Rao had expressed his desire to quit his post to serve the government in the new state of Telangana, sources told ICMW on May 20. He expects to be relieved by early June so as to join the Telengana government which comes into existence on June 2.
A 1986 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer who hails from the Telangana region, Rao was appointed chief of the world's largest coal producer in April 2012 for a five-year tenure. He was due to retire in 2018.
