Coal India likely to end FY16 with 535-540 mt output

Coal India Ltd (CIL) is likely to end the current financial year (2016-17) with actual production of anywhere between 535-540 million tons (mt), an official from the company told ICMW.
Thus, the company is likely to miss its output target of 550 mt for the year.
“We could have ended with slightly higher production during the year, but for low demand for coal from power sector consumers,” the official said, adding, “Production had to be deliberately reduced at some of the mines recently because of lower lifting, particularly from the power sector.”
As of March 15, CIL had produced about 504 mt of coal while the offtake stood at around 507 mt.
