Coal India’s Jan output down 1.65% y-o-y

February 2: Coal India Limited (CIL), on February 2, said that its January 2015 output registered a slight fall from January 2014 as well as December 2014.
Production of CIL in January 2015 stood at 46.60 million tons (mt), down 1.65% over 47.38 mt produced in January 2014, and significantly down from the target of 50.09 mt set for the month under review, according to provisional data released by the company.
CIL’s January output fell slightly as coal production in two subsidiaries of the company -Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) - suffered during the month, the data revealed. However, two other subsidiaries - Eastern Coalfields limited (ECL) and South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) - surpassed their respective targets.
On a month-on-month basis too, the company’s output fell slightly from 47.00 mt produced in December 2014.
During April-January, 2014-15, coal production by the world’s largest coal miner stood at 388.98 mt, up 6.11% over 366.57 mt produced in the corresponding period of 2013-14.
The company’s coal production target for the period of April-December, 2014-15, was 403.56 mt.
For the current financial year, the company has set a production target of 507.00 mt.
According to available data, the company’s actual production in January 2014 was 93% of the targeted 50.09 mt.
