Coal India’s production up 22.60% in Madhya Pradesh

December 15: Coal India Ltd (CIL), which reported an 8.8% growth in coal production during the first eight months (April-November) of 2015-16, witnessed a whopping 22.60% yearly growth in output from its mining operations in Madhya Pradesh (MP), according to information available with ICMW.
Production in MP stood at 53.58 million tons (mt) till November 2015, compared to 43.71 mt achieved during the same period last year, the data shows.
The other high-growth states were West Bengal (11.20%) and Odisha (10.10%) with total output of 13.73 mt and 83.52 mt, respectively. Two states, namely Uttar Pradesh (-13.2%) and Assam (-30.8%), suffered a negative growth in coal output during the period under consideration.
In terms of volume, the top three states were Odisha (83.52 mt), Chhattisgarh (74.77 mt) and Jharkhand (65.93 mt). Together, these three states contributed almost 70% of CIL’s total output.
Also, in November, the highest producing states were Odisha (12.08 mt), Chhattisgarh (10.90 mt), Jharkhand (10.38 mt), followed by MP (7.66 mt), Maharashtra (3.31 mt) and West Bengal (2.25 mt), in that order.
Production in West Bengal, which had displayed a sharp decline during the first quarter (April-June) of 2015-16, picked up in the second and third quarters and reported a high growth at the end of November, 2015.
