Coal block case: Former coal secy says Manmohan Singh gave final nod
01 Sep 2015
Former coal secretary H C Gupta Monday told the special court that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had allegedly given the “final approval” for allocation of coal block to accused firm Kamal Sponge Steel and Power Ltd (KSSPL).
“Accused (Gupta) was only coal secretary and heading the screening committee, which was only a recommending body, and thus had no dominion over the natural resources of the country as the final approval was made by the Minister of Coal (Singh),” the counsel for Gupta, told the court.
The CBI countered it saying that “the Coal Minister/Prime Minister was kept in the dark”.
