November 13: Total coal handling by Dhamra Port during the first seven months of 2015-16 rose 7% to 7.05 million tons (mt) from 6.59 mt seen during the corresponding period of the previous financial year, according to a compilation by ICMW.
The increase in overall handling was recorded during the period despite a marginal decline in coking coal handling which means the handling of non-coking coal or steam coal rose a bit, the data revealed.
According to ICMW’s compilation, coking coal handling this year fell by 16.52% to 2.78 mt from 3.32 mt handled last year, the handling of steam coal jumped by 31% to 4.27 mt from 3.26 mt last year.
Of the seven months in 2015-16, the total handling in April, May and July was below 1 mt, while in the rest of the months, the handling was above 1 mt, the compilation revealed.
