Coal handling at VOC Port up 15.56% y-o-y in FY’14

April 9: Coal handling at V O Chidambaranar Port (formerly Tuticorin Port), including imported coal, increased 15.56% to 12.35 million tons (mt) in 2013-14 compared to 10.69 mt in 2012-13, according to data available with ICMW.
Of the total coal handled in 2013-14, thermal coal handling at the port stood at 12.15 mt as against 10.62 mt in 2012-13, registering a growth of 14.40% while petroleum coke handling at the port increased sharply in 2013-14 to 0.20 mt compared to 0.068 mt in 2012-13.
For the month of March, 2014, thermal coal handling stood at 1.18 mt as against 0.87 mt in February 2014, registering a growth of 35.63%. On a year-on-year basis too, coal handling at V O Chidambaranar Port increased nearly 20% from 0.98 mt in the same month a year ago (March 2013).
No petroleum coke was handled at the port in the penultimate and last months of 2013-14 and 2012-14 at the port, the data showed.
Total cargo handling by V O Chidambaranar Port increased slightly by 1.38% to 28.64 million tons (mt) (excluding containers) in 2013-14 compared to 28.26 mt in 2012-13.
